PET vs PVC vs Laminate Cabinet Doors: What Buyers Should Compare
Separate the surface from the substrate
PET, PVC and laminate describe different decorative surface approaches; none alone tells you the substrate, thickness, adhesive system or edge construction. Product terminology varies between suppliers, so request a written description of the complete panel and door. Confirm whether the reverse face matches the front and how cut edges, corners and routed profiles are finished.
Compare the intended use, not just the finish name
Ask for the manufacturer’s relevant care instructions and available test information for the specific product. Resistance to heat, scratching, moisture and cleaning chemicals depends on the complete construction and processing, not simply a PET or PVC label. Check any limitations near appliances and ask which cleaners are appropriate. Do not interpret a moisture-resistant surface as making the entire door waterproof.
Use samples to expose practical differences
Compare color and sheen under the same light, inspect exposed edges and look at the reverse face. Confirm whether the sample has the same substrate and thickness as production. Request a sample of any shaped profile, since a flat color chip does not show corner wrapping or edge treatment. Keep approved references and record the exact surface code on the purchase specification.
